Software Engineer – Backend & AI Features
About the role
As a Software Engineer at Madden, you'll own features end to end - following a problem wherever it lives and fixing it there, rather than handing it off at a service boundary. The work is backend-weighted and that's where you'll spend most of your time, but some of it will land in the frontend, and you should be comfortable going there when a feature or a bug takes you there. Madden's tech team is a collaborative, tight-knit group where creativity, teamwork, and initiative are highly valued. We foster a culture where learning, personal growth, and mutual support are encouraged.
Your tasks will include:
Collaborating with leadership, product design, and other developers to improve solutions.
Building and owning our backend (Golang, Postgres, ClickHouse), and the frontend on top of it (React, TypeScript).
Working with data at scale - designing the schemas, queries, and pipelines that keep large volumes of retail and e-commerce data fast to query as our customers grow.
Building LLM-powered features in the product - assistants, agents, and natural-language querying over customer data - and taking them from prototype to something we can run in production.
Sharing your expertise in architectural discussions, technical discovery, and daily conversations with your team members.
Optionally, contributing to cloud infrastructure (GCP) and our forecasting and predictive modelling work, depending on your experience.
Location: Office-first, in central Stockholm. Close collaboration and shared problem-solving are core to how we work, so the default is being in together - with flexibility when life requires it.
Who we're looking for
Someone who works well in a small team and drives their own work - comfortable taking ownership and moving things forward without being asked, and equally comfortable pulling others in when that gets to a better answer.
An interest in building scalable applications that handle large data sets.
Curiosity about applying LLMs in real products - where they work, where they don't, and what it takes to make them reliable enough to put in front of a customer. Hands-on experience is welcome but not a requirement.
Several years of professional experience building and running backend services in production. We care more about what you've built and shipped than the exact number of years.
A degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field - or equivalent knowledge acquired another way.
Depth on the backend, plus enough frontend to find your way around. You've worked in a modern component framework at some point and can take on a React and TypeScript task - it doesn't have to be where you're strongest, but it shouldn't be new to you.
Bonus: an interest in consumer retail, e-commerce, and analytics.
